Irrigation Ales to Participate in Ales for ALS™ in 2023

Beer sales will benefit ALS research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute

July 29, 2023 – COURTLAND, KANSAS, – This year, Irrigation Ales, along with hundreds of breweries across the United States are participating in Ales for ALS™, a program that raises money for vital ALS research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). Each year, Ales for ALS™ breweries receive a free blend of experimental hops, which are donated by B.T. Loftus Ranches and YCH Hops. Breweries then raise money for ALS TDI through sales of their unique, limited-edition Ales for ALS™ beers, which are made from the donated hops, and through proceeds generated from their events and festivals. Since 2013, breweries participating in Ales for ALS™ have raised over $4,000,000 for ALS research at ALS TDI.

A rare nonprofit biotech, ALS TDI is the largest drug discovery lab in the world dedicated solely to ALS research. The ALS TDI lab, located in greater Boston, employs a team of scientists who work relentlessly to find treatments for ALS – a fatal disease which currently has no treatments or cures.

“At the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), our goal is to continue to advance drugs until there are effective treatments for everyone with ALS. With every dollar raised, the breweries participating in the Ales for ALS™ program are helping to support our work to end ALS.” says Fernando Vieira, M.D., CEO and CSO and of ALS TDI.

Starting in July and through August Irrigation Ales will have “Billy Beer IPA” on tap for the Ales for ALS™ collaboration. A portion of sales from this India pale ale will be donated in honor of “Bill Sr.” William Mahin Sr. who passed from ALS in 2001. Bill Sr. is the father of “Bill” William Mahin Jr. a co-brewer and the grandfather of Luke Mahin a co-owner/brewer.

Luke Mahin of Irrigation Ales shared “Bill Sr. was a long-time farmer and irrigator in the Courtland area and he enjoyed gathering with friends and family. We invite you to help us celebrate Bill Sr.’s life and support others in their battle with ALS by purchasing a pint or donating directly to this effort.”

This beer is on tap now and available in 16 oz cans through August in the taproom at 414 Main Street in downtown Courtland, Kansas. Open Thursdays 5-10 pm, Fridays 5-11 pm, and Saturdays 12-10 pm.
